About this tradedress
what about characters that look like others from series?
Example if i draw a series that uses a certain character that looks like a person
and then other one draws another one that looks similar
what would happen if characters look similar? even if they have nothing in common than that

Great video I didn’t know that stuff

As a parent i find this very interesting and when i buy a prduct i want to MAKE SURE of what i am buying because of limitations and warranties. If i am not mistaken, mike, while in college i remember reading something about “knock off toys”, ” not brand named toys” that said something int he lines that if it is not the ACTUAL LICENSED product the warranties are NULL and VOIDED.

Cont.
I rather spend a little more for a toy to get the ACTUAL product then save money and buy a knock off toy that falls apart.

Turok picture from one of its video games was added to one of those cheap 5 dollar toys. But it was a robot not a hunter or dino toy. Its the box art of Turok 3 with the main character in orange yelling up on the box.
Over all it does make me wounder how bad it gets when people make fake Trading Card’s. I mean if you go to a flea market area do you ever find a row a cardboard boxes setting out with 1 to 5 dollar signs up there.
Fake Yugioh and Pokemon cards. Which is just too funny to see.

This is an excellent and informative video, and actually hits on a subject that touches upon my work.
Good to see people using the internet to inform, without the sensationalization. But it would help if you also quote some sources where we could learn more, giving us a head start if we want to research or learn about things more.
And last but not least, Thanks.

I think Trade Dress is more trying to capitalize on an existing series or established product line by making things similiar to it.
What you describe I’m not sure would be trade dress infringement simply because two aspects of two series or established product lines have similiarities.
A lot of villians in a lot of series have a black cloaked figure with red eyes, for example. This is largely an aspect of honorable and honest business practice, and less about variety.

Mike this is an awesome channel idea! I’m in love with toys myself and sometimes purposely go out to different stores just to spot the fakies. I can’t wait to see more of this stuff. It’s amazing what people have the balls to make and produce. Geez.

If i was gonna buy that “princess” thing, I would think it’s real AT A GLANCE MIND YOU.
September 8th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Nice find! That “Dishy” is hilarious!! How do you find this stuff?
This is a great example of trade dress and copyright infringement by selling look-alike products that will likely confuse the consumer into buying what they think is the popular brand; in this case Disney.
Thanks for posting
